Using the LTI 360B Laser Rangefinder and GPS in ArcPad 7.x

These are some basic things learned that do not seemed to be covered in the documentation for either the LTI 360B or in ArcPad 7.x.

LTI TruPulse 360B

1.        Read and Review the documentation in the box included with the LTI TruPulse Laser
           Rangefinder 360B

2.        Go to the Laser Technology  Inc. Website.  http://www.lasertech.com/360/

3.        Watch and perform the online Demo as to the data collection techniques, maybe
           several times thru.  http://www.lasertech.com/360DemoWeb/

4.        Watch the LTI 360B Calibration Video, several times.  The video camera is fom the
front and you have to 'Pause'  the calibration video several times to get the
orientation of the device correct during the process.  Set units to Meters.
           http://www.lasertech.com/360/   'Click on Calibration Video'

5.        Read the following online document
           http://www.resourcesupplyllc.com/PDFs/ArcPadGPS_Offsets_RSLLC.pdf

6.        The LTI Unit also needs to be calibrated to the Magnetic North Declination which is in
Taylorsville, Utah is about +12 34' or +12.56 degrees, whereas Garden City is +12 36'
or 12.6 degrees.   Blanding is +11 7' or + 11.12 degrees.  The unit has an internal
compass that uses Magnetic North in calculations that extrapolate the distances to
objects being collected, thus providing the GPS X,Y,Z  of the object based on your
own X,Y,Z location.  Get the Zip Code for the Area to be collected and Go to NOAA to
find the Magnetic Declination prior to field data collection.

7.        I am constructing a map of Utah that will provide Magnetic Declination in a hard copy..
PLEASE NOTE..  Magnetic Declination changes!  It is DATE Sensitive.  You need the
date.  In general the Magnetic declination is changing in Utah is changing - .7  min/yr.
This rate changes from 2 - 25 degrees over a 100 year period.
           http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/geomag/WMM/data/wmm-D05.pdf

8.        There is another useful page http://www.magnetic-declination.com/

9.        Input the Magnetic Declination for your data collection Area into the LTI TruPulse 360B
by:  Press the Down button for 4 seconds.  Then tap the same button until the Inc is
the menu item, hit 'Fire' Calib = Yes then adjust the Declination each decimal place one
by one and complete by pressing 'Fire' Again.

10.        Now turn on the LTI Bluetooth Functionality.  Scroll thru menu item until you see the
'bt' hit fire, press the down button, and select 'ON'.  This will remain each power up
and you do not need to reset.

11.        Scroll thru the setup menu until SD is lit up in the display. 'Slope Distance'

12.        The LTI TruPulse 360B is ready.
